Screen Protector - fitting puzzle?

My HTC Flyer now has a screen protector. Delivered as ordered and on time. There were no fitting instructions and no marked or apparently protected sticky side. Only by getting the 1st attempt wrong did I find out that I'd been rubbing the sticky side. Reversiing the film now gives me a horridly blotchy looking closed screen which seems OK when the unit is lit. The enclosing envelope for the screen has a window cut to exactly the same size even with a tab. Is this also supposed to be usable although not having a sticky surface? Result: good protector, rubbish instructions.
